Agent Lineage is the history of an instance as it diverges from the release that created it.
Version control records how a shared codebase changes. Lineage records how a particular instance changes relative to its original release and its peers. The record includes installed upgrades, local natural-language program changes, generated code, user changes, evaluation results, and artifact history. It also tracks tool or permission changes, forks, merges, and rollback points. Not every change carries equal risk. Knowledge, preferences, behavior, capabilities, structure, and authority require different review and approval rules. A platform can keep its shared releases fixed while instances accumulate different workspace state. Upstream evolution improves the shared agent project. Local evolution specializes one instance. Federated evolution looks for improvements across instances without disclosing their private data. See the paper, sections 12 and 19.
