Agent Artifact is a durable, portable work product with its own identity, versions, provenance, permissions, and history.
Agent Applications often produce work that outlives the conversation. A message belongs to a conversation timeline. An artifact has its own address and lifecycle. A user can revise it, compare versions, share it outside the original conversation, or use it as input to later work. Discussing a spreadsheet is different from having the spreadsheet.

Portable and live artifacts

A file artifact, such as a document or spreadsheet, can be opened on a user’s computer. A hosted work product, such as an interactive report, website, or Agent Application, needs a suitable runtime. In both cases, the platform records the artifact’s creator, current version, source lineage, and access rules. A live artifact may depend on current data that cannot travel with it. Its record carries governed references and an artifact-scoped grant for the exact resources it may read. A receiving platform resolves those references and requests fresh authorization for grants that cannot transfer. See Companion documents and the paper’s section on artifacts and other durable results.
